AFFF- Aqueous film forming foam

The word acronyme AFFF is the most used term, but it is also knows as Aqueous film forming foam. AFFF foams comes in many variants such as AFFF 1%, AFFF 3%, AFFF 6 % and there are specific names used by Fomtec such as AFFF 3% S or AFFF 1% F.

AFFF 1% A

Fomtec AFFF 1% A is an aqueous film forming foam concentrate (AFFF) consisting of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants blended with various solvents, preservatives and stabilisers. The foam forms an aqueous film that rapidly cuts off the oxygen supply and knocks down the fire. The expanded foam, from which the film is drained, forms a stable blanket that suppresses the release of flammable vapours and cools down the fuel surface extinguishing the fire and preventing reignition. Aqueous film forming foam - Alcohol resistant concentrate

The acronyme AFFF ARC are often found in different forms such as AFFF-AR or AR-AFFF and are also known as "alcohol foam", "alcohol resistant foam" or "polar solvent foam".AFFF ARC foam comes in many different versions such as ARC 3x3, ARC 3x6, ARC 1x1 etc, and fomtec uses special names such as ARC 3x3 S or ARC 1x1 NV. Other suppliers use different coding such as switching the use of 3x3 to 3-3 or 3/3 as well, assuming different acronyme such as ATC or AR instead of ARC as we do, sometimes these AR or ATC are used in conjunction with AFFF (I.e AFFF-ARC OR AFFF-AR OR AFFF ARC etc).

ARC 1x1 NV

Fomtec ARC 1x1 NV is a high efficiency multipurpose film forming foam concentrate liquid. Characteristics for film forming foam are that it spreads rapidly across a fire. As a result, it is highly effective against hydrocarbon fires. Adding special polymers ensures it is also highly effective against polar solvents in fresh or sea water. The 1x1 NV is a Newtonian liquid based on specially selected hydrocarbon / fluorocarbon surfactants and does not contain any polymer that makes general ARC type foam concentrates viscous. Its high fluidity makes the induction easier and accurate through both portable and fixed inline proportioners even at low temperatures. The advantage of Fomtec AFFF ARC 1x1 NV is the 1% induction ratio on all class B fires including polar solvents in fresh or sea water. The low surface tension of the water foam concentrate solution enables the aqueous film, which is heavier than the burning liquid, to float on top of the hydrocarbon liquid surface. When applied on polar solvents a polymeric membrane makes it possible for the foam blanket to extinguish effectively. This works also on foam destroying liquids such as MTBE.

ARC 1x3

Fomtec ARC 1x3 is a high efficiency multi purpose film forming foam (1x3). The main advantage of Fomtec ARC 1x3 is the 1% induction ratio on hydrocarbon liquids and 3% on polar solvents, in fresh or seawater. Characteristics for film forming foam are that it spreads rapidly across a fire. As a result, it is highly effective against hydrocarbon fires. Adding special polymers ensures it is also highly effective against polar solvents. Fomtec ARC 3x3 NV (Newtonian) is a high efficiency multi purpose film forming foam concentrate. The 3x3 NV is a newtonian liquid based specially selected hydrocarbon / fluorocarbon surfactants and does not contain any polymer that makes general ARC type foam concentrates viscous. Its high fluidity makes the induction easier and accurate through both portable and fixed inline proportioners even at low temperatures. The advantage of Fomtec ARC 3x3 NV is the 3% induction ratio on all class B fires including polar solvents in fresh or sea water. ARC 3x3 S

Fomtec ARC 3x3 S is high efficiency multi purpose film forming foam (3x3) that is PFOS free. Fomtec ARC 3x3 S shall be used at 3% induction ratio on both hydrocarbon and polar solvents fires using fresh, brackish or seawater. The film forming characteristics of Fomtec ARC 3x3 S means that it spreads rapidly across a fire. As a result, it is highly effective against hydrocarbon fires and with the addition of special polymers it is also highly effective against polar solvents. The low surface tension of the water foam concentrate solution enables the aqueous film, although heavier than the burning liquid, to float on top of the hydrocarbon liquid surface. When applied on polar solvents a polymeric membrane makes it possible for the foam blanket to extinguish effectively. This works on foam destroying liquids such as pure MTBE or Gasoline mixed with MTBE. Fomtec ARC 3x3 S should be used at 3% proportioned solution.

ARC 3x3 Ultra

ARC Miljö

Fomtec ARC Miljö is a high efficiency multi purpose film forming foam (3x6). Characteristics for film forming foam are that it spreads rapidly across a fire. As a result, it is highly effective against hydrocarbon fires. Adding special polymers ensures it is also highly effective against polar solvents. The low surface tension of the water foam concentrate solution enables the aqueous film, which is heavier than the burning liquid, to float on top of the hydrocarbon liquid surface. When applied on polar solvents a polymeric membrane makes it possible for the foam blanket to extinguish effectively. This works also on foam destroying liquids such as MTBE.

Synthetic Multi Purpose

Synthetic multi purpose, in this group it is more unclear what is the phrasing and words commonly used in the industry, but Fomtec often use the two letter combination "MB" or customers refer to "high expansion foam, " hi-ex foam" or "synthetic multipurpse foam".?

LS aMax

Fomtec LS aMax is a new generation of high performing, multi-purpose foam concentrate. It is consisting of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants blended with various solvents, preservatives and stabilizers. Fomtec LS aMAx have been designed to be used as high expansion, medium expansion and low expansion foam systems. Another unique feature with Fomtec LS aMax is the alcohol resistance.

LS xMax

Fomtec LS xMax is a new generation of high performing, multi-purpose foam concentrate. It is consisting of hydro-carbon surfactants blended with various solvents, preservatives and stabilizers. Fomtec LS xMax is free from fluorine surfactants. Fomtec LS xMax have been designed to be used as high expansion, medium expansion and low expansion foam systems.

LS EXP

Fomtec LS EXP is an effective high expansion foam concentrate for use in any High expansion system. Fomtec LS EXP mixed with water and converted into finished foam via low, medium or high expansion foam making equipment combats fires by engulfing the area, restricting the supply of oxygen, cooling of the liquid surface, and the suppression of flammable gases evaporating from the hot liquid surface. MB 5

Fluorine free foams, often referred to as 3F foams are predominantly synthetic based foams based on surfactant blends and in many cases the use of polysaccharides.

The word acronyme FFFP is the most used term and the FFFP foams comes in many variants such as FFFP 3%, FFFP 6% and there are specific names used by Fomtec such as FFFP 3% ICAO. It is also called "fluoro protein", "fluoroprotein", "filmforming" and " film forming"

Fomtec FFFP 3% should be used as a 3% proportioned solution in fresh or sea water. The correct proportioning or mixture ratio is 3 parts of concentrate and 97 parts of water.
